Department Information
The Welsh department at Dwr-Y-Felin is a very forward going department. It offers pupils the opportunity to develop their bilingual skills to the highest level. This is apparent when reading the high success rate at the end of Key Stage 4.
The department actively promotes bilingualism; outside the classroom pupils are given opportunities to develop their own talents through various activities such as Urdd competitions and the annual school Eisteddfod. Opportunities are also given to attend Welsh language courses at Llangrannog, activity holidays at Glan Llyn and revision sessions at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
Departmental trips and visits are arranged throughout the year to reinforce classroom learning.
School Welsh Clubs
Lower School:
The lower school has a weekly ‘revision/catch up’ club which meets at lunchtime.
Upper School:
An after school homework/revision club meets every Tuesday to give additional encouragement and support for the WJEC examinations.
Both clubs are very well supported and during year 11, pupils are also given the opportunity to attend a Saturday revision club.
The Welsh department appreciates the support of parents for all extra curricular activities outside school.
