Vocational Subjects
In our attempt to provide pupils will opportunities to develop learning pathways which may be suited to their career aspiration, we have developed collaborative links with Neath Port Talbot college. We hope to offer pupils the opportunity to study one of the following options; these subjects will be taught primarily at NPT college.
BTECH Certificate in Construction Level 2
The course will run in Years 10 and 11. It will give pupils a basic understanding of the Construction Skills that will be needed for future careers in the Construction Industry. This qualification is equivalent to 2 GCSEs grades at A*-C.
The Level 2 BTEC First Certificate is a 180 guided learning hour qualification which offers a bite-sized opportunity for pupils to experience a vocational qualification in construction. The BTEC First Certificate offers a focused vocational qualification for pupils who wish to follow a shorter programme of study related to ‘Construction’. This will enable learners to progress to a higher-level qualification relevant to this subject.
Pupils will study Units 1 and 2, and one unit from 3-16 (dependent on college expertise and availability)

BTECH Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies at Level 1
This course runs throughout Year 10 and 11 and will enable pupils to study a range of vocational areas from a specified list. Over the two years pupils will choose 3 subjects from the following options to study:
- Construction
- Engineering
- Retail
- Health and Social Care
- Fashion
- Painting and Decorating
- Using Displays in Travel and Tourism
- Electronic Assembly and Electrical Wiring
- Routine Servicing of Mechanical & Electrical/Electronic Equipment & Systems
This qualification is intended for pupils who would benefit from experiencing a wider range of related vocational subjects. The qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at D-G level.
BTECH First Certificate in Retail at Level 2
We also hope to be able to offer pupils the First Certificate in Retail. This course is equivalent to 2 GCSE grades at A*-C. Further details to follow.
