Department Information
In effect, this is a three year course where pupils design and make products to meet the needs of individuals and consumers.
Pupils will engage in activities which develop design capability as well as developing the skills and knowledge required for the design tasks.
Pupils will have opportunities to use a variety of materials from wood, plastics, metals, paper , card, food and textiles etc. and also be able to use electronics to develop products throughout the three years. There will be ample opportunities to use Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Makes and in doing so raise awareness of industrial processes.
With each year the skills, processes and tasks become increasingly demanding so that pupils achieve higher levels of competency. In addition to the obvious practical outcomes pupils will be developing key skills across the curriculum - communication, thinking, number and ICT. They will be given opportunities develop knowledge and understanding of the cultural characteristics of Wales, to promote , sustain and develop global citizenship, and develop their awareness of careers and the world of work.
In this subject section, each year is broken down into a more detailed overview so that you will be able to see progression more easily.
