Why is it important to learn Spanish?

j-lo

Spanish has become more and more popular and is now the fourth most widely spoken language in the world and it is quickly becoming the foreign language of choice in Europe after English. The study of GCSE Spanish is naturally an integral part of the European dimension, equipping the workforce of the future with skills appropriate to the global economy.  The study of Spanish widens candidates’ horizons and increases awareness of the differences and similarities of the 2 cultures.

In year 10, pupils with proven linguistic ability and who show an interest in studying modern foreign languages, will be offered a place on an accelerated language course.  The purpose of the course is to foster and encourage an enthusiasm for the language and culture of Spain and France.  We aim to extend pupils’ learning by studying both French and Spanish in one subject time slot.

The GCSE Spanish course will naturally enhance the European awareness of pupils. Similarly, opportunities will naturally arise to explore the spiritual, moral, ethical and cultural dimension of topics studied.  Opportunities will also be provided for candidates to develop their Key Skills.
