Department Information

The School’s music department gives a number of opportunities to pupils in developing their understanding of Music from many different cultures and genres through: performing, composing and appraising activities.

In addition to classroom experience pupils are given opportunities to develop self-discipline, team work and confidence through instrumental lessons taught by our visiting instrumental music teachers from West Glamorgan Music Service (www.westglamorganmusicservice.co.uk):

Through taking part in these instrumental lessons which are free to pupils it is on condition that they attend the following ensemble sessions at lunchtimes or after school (pupils are given lunch passes if needed to get in early for lunch):

The school also hosts West Glamorgan Music Service’s Brass Centre on Saturday mornings from 10am -12pm in the Upper school site. All pupils who have brass lessons with Mr Gibbs attend this centre. At various points throughout the year String and Woodwind ensemble rehearsals take place with the visiting instrumental teachers.

There is a school choir on both lower and upper school sites rehearsing weekly during lunchtimes including weekly rock band rehearsals and musical production rehearsals in conjunction with the Drama department. The music department puts on a variety of concerts throughout the year. The following is an example:
