The course is 60% coursework and 40% examination.
The coursework is completed over the 2 years and pupils are given the opportunity to promote enterprise and entrepreneurial skills through the process of identifying an opportunity to design a product to meet a specific need, investigating the work of the manufacturing industry, developing their own product and finally evaluating the whole process.
Tasks linked to the project provide opportunities to develop independent thinking skills, through identifying relevant sources of information and developing specific performance criteria for designs to guide their thinking.
The examination is made up of 2 papers; the core paper is for 30 minutes and is a general technology paper that all pupils will sit irrespective of whether they are studying graphics, food or resistant materials. Pupils will the sit a subject specific paper that lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.
